Workspace ONE is a digital workspace platform that simply and securely delivers and manages any app on any device by integrating access control, application management and multi-platform endpoint management. Follow the steps below to experience Workspace ONE hands on with a macOS device.
Before You Begin
Before you begin this walkthrough ensure you have the following:
- A valid account in the VMware TestDrive environment, sign up here if you do not yet have an account
Section 1: Registering your macOS Device
Ensure you're starting with an unenrolled macOS device. First, open your browser and navigate to https://testdrive.vidmpreview.com. Log in using your TestDrive credentials.
From the User Portal View, click on your username -> Settings -> About
Click the 'Download app' button to get the Workspace ONE app.
Double click to open the installer. Then drag the icon into the Applications folder.
Launch the Workspace ONE app and enroll using your TestDrive email address
Your TestDrive email address follows the below format:
If you're unsure what your TestDrive email address is, you can verify this in the TestDrive portal by following the steps below:
- Login to portal.vmtestdrive.com with your username and password
- Click on the dropdown next to Workspace ONE in the Ready to Use Experiences section to view your credentials
- Here you will find your TestDrive email address
Enter your TestDrive credentials when prompted.
Select Enterprise - BYOD Demo from the dropdown menu
Note: Do not use the EMM Demo, as direct enrollment is still not supported. In case you do use it and see issues, please perform an Enterprise Wipe on your device from the Workspace ONE UEM Admin Console.
Your device will be registered at this point and you’ll get access to Workspace ONE Catalog.
Section 2: Step-up to Enrollment
Next, navigate to the Catalog tab. Let's click on an app that has a star icon, which means it requires device management to be installed. Here we will use VMware Horizon Client.
You will be prompted to install the MDM profile by completing the enrollment steps. Start by clicking Enable Workspace Services.
Follow the prompts to install the profile.
Now that your device has been enrolled, you will see an installation prompt for the Horizon Client.
During or after installation, you will receive a prompt to install the Agent. Click Download from the Workspace ONE app, and again from the browser window to download the installation file.
Double click the .pkg file, and follow the prompts to install the Agent on your device.
The agent will then get configured to your enrollment values. To verify, right click on the Agent icon at the top right of the screen, then click on Preferences.
Section 3: Unenroll Your Device
The last step we will perform is to remove the corporate info from our device similar to how an organization could remove this info if the device was lost or stolen.
First, open a web browser and navigate to testdrive.awmdm.com. Log in with your TestDrive username and password.
Note: Your admin console username must be in the format vmwtd.com\username.
Next, ensure you're using the "Device Administrator at World Wide Enterprises" role by checking your account settings in the top right.
Next, navigate to "Devices > List View" in the left column. You can search for your username in the right side of the screen to find your device in the list. Click the name of your device to open the device details.
Now Click "More Actions > Delete Device" to both delete your device record from the console and issue an enterprise wipe or choose or "More Actions > Enterprise Wipe" to only issue an enterprise wipe to your device.
