Shared Multi-User Android Devices in Healthcare

This walkthrough describes how to use the configured, healthcare, multi-user Android device experience in TestDrive.  The shared, multi-user device use case is commonly known as Check In / Check Out.

Before You Begin


In order to complete this walkthrough, here's what you need:

  • An updated and factory reset Android device. 
  • A valid account in the VMware TestDrive environment.
  • An enabled Workspace ONE UEM service in the TestDrive portal.

Device Staging


On the factory reset Android device, configure Wi-Fi. 

Proceed to the Google account screen.  Enter afw#hub in the account field.

When prompted, install the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub, proceed through the work managed device process, accepting all prompts.   The Hub should eventually prompt for enrollment.

To initiate enrollment, enter the staging account's enrollment email address, rhsstage@vmtestdrive.com.

Choose the organization group Healthcare - Check In/Check Out.

At the Workspace ONE sign in prompt, authenticate with the staging user rhsstage.

Username: rhsstage
Password: Stage123!

Review and accept privacy notification.

Review and agree to data sharing notification.

The device will enroll, provisioning with the Launcher.  The Launcher manages the check in \ check out personas.  

Check In / Check Out

Three (3) preset users, or personas, are available for your demo when the Hub presents the checked in screen.  Each user's credentials and experience is detailed in its below expandable section. Familiarize yourself with each persona and use the desired personas for your audience.

Doctor
 Username: doctor
Password: Doctor123!

The doctor has very limited device access, but access is provided to the critical apps required of a neurologist.

  • Neurology web app
  • Camera allowed 
  • No screenshot
  • No Media
  • No access to most native Android apps

The Hub will open to the apps view when it's successfully checked out.  

 Click the home button to exit the Hub. You will see the device has now been configured with applications and websites which are tailored for a neurologist.  Additionally, some applications are starting to install via Workspace ONE UEM polices, like Horizon.

 

You'll notice almost all of the native applications have been removed.  This setup enables the neurologist to focus clinical tasks and not have to waste time searching through unneeded screens and apps. As well, the dock has rearranged with the Hub, as designed by the admin (Note: if you do not see your apps hidden and dock rearranged this is because your device is not supervised. See instructions here to gain this functionality: http://support.vmtestdrive.com/article/188-supervising-your-demo-device.)

 

Launch the Hub.  You will be seamlessly signed into the doctor's account.

Navigate the Hub, reviewing apps and categories, notifications, and the customizable home link currently set fo the TestDrive KB.

From Hub's apps view, tap on the upper right corner user icon.  The area accessed is the administrative underpinnings of the Hub application.  When in shared device mode, this is where users check in devices.

 

Select Log Out to end the doctor's session.

 

The device will return to the login screen, now checked in.

 

Nurse
Username: nurse
Password: Nurse123!

The nurse has limited access, but access is provided to the critical apps and more functions needed for bedside care as a cardiology nurse.

  • Cardiology web app
  • Kronos app
  • Some media allowed
  • Many native Android apps are available.  Some are blocked. 
  • No screenshot
  • No camera

The Hub will open to the apps view when it's successfully checked out.  

 

Click the home button to exit the Hub. You will see the device has now been configured with applications and websites which are tailored for a neurologist nurse.  Some applications are beginning to install via Workspace ONE UEM polices, like the Epic apps.

 

You'll notice many native applications have been hidden but many are also available, as well as the dock has rearranged with the Hub, as designed by the admin (Note: if you do not see your apps hidden and dock rearranged this is because your device is not supervised. Head Nurse
Username: headnurse
Password: Headnurse123!

The head nurse has limited access, but access is provided to the apps needed for care as a nursing manager of a few departments.

  • Neurology, Cardiology, and Oncology apps
  • Kronos app
  • Camera access
  • All media apps are available
  • Most native Android apps are available
  • No screenshot

The Hub will open to the apps view when it's successfully checked out.

 

Click the home button to exit the Hub. You will see the device has now been configured with applications and websites which are tailored for the head nurse who oversees several departments.  You should see some applications beginning to install via Workspace ONE UEM polices, like Horizon and the Epic apps.

 

You'll notice many native applications have been hidden but many are also available, such as all of the native media apps.  As well, as the dock has rearranged with the Hub, as designed by the admin.  (Note: if you do not see your apps hidden and dock rearranged this is because your device is not supervised. Enterprise Wipe

A critical function required by healthcare organizations is the enterprise wipe, which removes all organizational access and data from the device.

Navigate to the Workspace ONE UEM Administrative Console: https://testdrive.awmdm.com.

Login with your TestDrive credentials, following this syntax: vmwtd.com\username

After logging into the console you will be logged into the admin role which you were last using.

The Check In Check Out demo is set up to show a device which is part of the Healthcare industry so we have created a separate company called Regional Health Systems for this persona.

Verify your admin role.  In the Workspace ONE UEM console, click your account name in the top right and verify your role is Device Administrator at Regional Health Systems to view your enrolled device.

Then select "Devices" and "List View" from the left navigation bar. Your enrolled device will display in the list view.

Since the device is now enrolled as the staging user, the user is rhsstage. Drill into your device to bring up the device details page.

 

Select More Actions > Enterprise Wipe (in the menu's management section) to wipe the device of all organizational control and data.

 

Your device will then return to the pre-enrolled state and all corporate applications and configurations will be removed.
