This article will walk you through launching virtual desktops from the Horizon Client.
Overview
- Log into the TestDrive Portal
- Launch Horizon Native Client Link
- Enter TestDrive Account credentials
- Launch a Windows 11 Virtual Desktop from the America Region
Before You Begin
In order to access the end to end demo please ensure you have the following:
- A valid account in the VMware TestDrive environment, sign up here if you don't yet have an account
- Network access from your device and TCP ports 80, 443, 4172, 8443 and UDP ports 443, 4172, 8443 enabled
- Latest Horizon Clients installed, available via direct download here
Launch Horizon Client From TestDrive Portal
First, navigate to the TestDrive portal at portal.vmtestdrive.com. Ensure you are logged in with your TestDrive account. From the Portal homepage, navigate to the VMware Horizon product tile and click Launch on the right.

Under the Native Client section, click on America Region - Standard and vGPU Demo.
If you have the Horizon Client installed, clicking this link will automatically populate your Horizon Client with the URL to the America Region.
Enter TestDrive Credentials
When prompted by Horizon Client, enter your TestDrive credentials and ensure that the domain is correctly selected as VMWDP. Once you have entered your username and password, click Login.
Choose and Launch a Desktop
There are several desktop pools available in the America Region such as TD-RDS-Desktops (Windows 2022), TD-Windows 11, and NVIDIA- VMWARE- VGPU TEST DRIVE (Windows 10).
Double click on the desktop pool you would like to launch.

In the example above, a desktop from the TD-WINDOWS11 pool has been launched from Horizon Client for Mac.
The desktops in the TD-WINDOWS11 pool have been deployed as non-persistent linked clones, configured with App Volumes writable volumes and DEM (Dynamic Environment Manager).
