In this quick walkthrough we're going to take a look at the App Volumes integration in Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure in both the Administration Console, and from a Microsoft Azure Windows 10 Multi-Session Virtual Desktop.
Overview
- Log in to TestDrive Portal
- Launch the Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure Administration Console from the Digital Workspace section of My Products in the portal
- Log in to the console
- Explore App Volumes from within the Applications menu
- Explore App Volumes assignments from within the Assignments menu
- Log into a Windows 10 Multi-Session App Volumes enabled virtual desktop.
- Launch the Paint.NET App Volumes Application
- Launch the Notepad ++ App Volumes Application
Before You Begin
In order to access the Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure Administration Console please ensure you have the following:
- A valid account in the VMware TestDrive environment, sign up here if you don't yet have an account.
- A valid VMware Cloud Services account, sign up here if you don't yet have an account.
- Latest Horizon Clients installed, available via direct download here
OK let's go, open your favorite web browser and navigate to the TestDrive Portal at:
https://portal.vmtestdrive.comOnce you've logged in, select Digital Workspace under My Products. Then scroll down to Horizon Cloud and click Launch.
On the pop up menu under Microsoft Azure, click Universal Console
You will be directed to the first Horizon Cloud login page. You will first need to login with a My VMware account. DO NOT use your own My VMware account!
Enter the credentials for the [email protected] account using the password found in the TestDrive Portal > Digital Workspace > Horizon Cloud product tile expanded.
Next, on the second Horizon Cloud login screen, for Active Directory Credentials, enter your own TestDrive credentials, making sure the domain is set to VMWTD
Please select Inventory > Applications from the left hand menu.
Notice the App Volumes Applications: Paint.NET and Notepad++
Back on the left menu, go to Assign Desktops & Apps > VDI VMware SDDC & App Volumes. See the Assigned App Volumes applications.
Now that we have seen what is on the backend, let's go back to the TestDrive portal.
Once again, open your favorite web browser and navigate to the TestDrive Portal at:
https://portal.vmtestdrive.comOnce you've logged in, select Digital Workspace under My Products. Then scroll down to Horizon Cloud and click Launch.
On the pop up menu under Microsoft Azure, click Desktops and Apps
Log in and launch Azure-W10-MultiDesk.
Select and launch Paint.NET
Observe the App Volumes Application launch. Close the Application when complete.
Select and Launch Notepad++ ApplicationObserve the App Volumes Notepad++ Application launch. Close the Application when complete
Right click on the Microsoft Start Button on the bottom left hand corner of the window and select Apps and Features.
Notice these applications operate as a locally installed application.
Log out of the Windows VDI session.
